It’s really, really hard not to compare our love and desire for No.6 clothes and clogs to, like, getting an insane food craving out of the blue. Or maybe a crazy itch that just has to be scratched. Every season, veteran stylists, shop owners and designers Morgan Yakus and Karin Bereson create the most perfect clothes and shoes, and once get a glimpse of the new season, you just obsess until you can get your fix.
And their fall collection is no exception — Morgan and Karin just killlled it. Inspired by the No Wave, post-punk music culture of the early ’80s, the line exudes understated cool. “It’s an era that still continues to influence fashion, and that is close to us,” says Morgan. “[The collection] draws from the prints and shapes inspired from the underground fashion culture of the movement.”
Overall, it’s a study in mixing masculine and feminine, and it brilliantly lands just this side of effortless androgeny. Drawstring pants come in silk or silk-backed sequins, boyfriend blazers pop up in silk tweeds, and you can take your pick between boyish shirt-dresses or girlish frocks with clever ruching and the unexpected ruffle.
And the footwear! Clogs are embellished with studs or color-blocked to look like saddle shoes, and lace-up, high-heel ankle boots are crafted from this season’s all-star fabric, shearling.
The first delivery just dropped at the creative duo’s little haven of a store in Little Italy, so go now to satisfy your sartorial urges. It’ll feel like finally getting your hands on a cupcake from Babycakes after traveling for three weeks in Asia or something… in a word, bliss.
